Chatham Community Library is starting “Kids Club for Social Justice” on September 17, 2020. The online program is aimed at young, elementary aged children.
What is “Social Justice”?
According to Investopedia, Social justice is a political and philosophical theory which asserts that there are dimensions to the concept of justice beyond those embodied in the principles of civil or criminal law.
However, there are people who use the term social justice that use complex social, economic, and political issues as a way to further their own agenda by claiming they are fighting to “right a wrong”. These range from easily offended people pushing a a left leaning agenda, violent extremists and even domestic terrorists.
Is the Kids Club for Social Justice safe for children?
Unfortunately, we’re not sure what the Chatham County Library’s agenda is with the Kids Club for Social Justice or who is hosting it. If it is safe or even appropriate for children remains to be seen.
The Chatham County Library’s Facebook Page simply states:
Kids Club for Social Justice starts on September 17 at 3:30 pm via Go To Meeting. Kids elementary age and older are invited to hear a story and talk about social justice issues. Contact youth services at youth.services@chathamlibraries.org for online meeting login information. Parents are welcome to attend!
